✅ CEM, or The Centre for Evaluation & Monitoring at the University of Durham, developed the CEM 11+ examination as a solution to concerns from certain grammar schools that their prevalent 11+ testing system was no longer sufficiently opaque. The test was devised to alleviate apprehensions about 'teaching to the test' and 'question spotting'.
✅ Initially some areas and schools favoured the CEM exam format because it was perceived to be more "tutor-proof," with particular emphasis put on the fact that CEM neither created nor published practise papers, which along with the tests' constant format revisions, apparently raising the difficulty for students.
✅ From the start, CEM aimed to erase any disadvantage caused between kids who are trained for tests and those who are not. CEM has claimed that in their opinion "Children should not get coaching for our selection exams"
✅ CEM assessments usually contain more questions than can be fairly finished in the assigned time, and it is not revealed beforehand how each topic is weighted in deciding the child's final result.
